ANCHOR FREIGHT WINS THE BIFA 2022 ‘EXTRA MILE AWARD’ FOR THEIR UKRAINIAN AID EFFORT

Anchor Freight successfully won the British International Freight Association (BIFA) 2022 ‘Extra Mile Award’ as recognition of the company’s involvement with humanitarian aid for Ukraine since the conflict started earlier last year. The award was presented to Anchor Freight by former England Captain Kevin Keegan at BIFA’s annual awards luncheon, held at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London on Thursday 19 January 2023.

To date Anchor have been directly responsible for more than 500 tons of aid delivered to those in need including, generators and vital medical equipment to hospitals in Ukraine. In addition to this, Anchor have also helped other carriers to deliver many hundreds of tons of aid through the robust supply chain, set up by Anchor with the assistance from Andrew Pituley (a colleague based in Lyiv).

Anchor Freight said, ‘This award is recognition not only for the excellent Anchor Freight Team who gave so much of their time, but for all the volunteers that turned up to help and the amazing generosity of local organisations and the wider community of Suffolk who donated so generously”.

They also stated “this was a real team effort, with our Ipswich team leading the charge with coordinating the collections and despatches of the aid, with the help of local hauliers Bacton Transport and Dan Ashford, and our Dover office using all their knowledge and network to ensure clear passage to the Polish warehouse hub in Mlyny close to the Ukraine boarder, so that Andrew Pituley, our colleague in Ukraine, could organise Ukrainian hauliers to collect and distribute to the hospitals and charities within Ukraine’.

Andrew Pituley, based in Lyiv, who coordinated all the aid getting to the charities and hospitals, said “I am so pleased that Anchor Freight have won this incredible award. My sincere congratulations and eternal gratitude to all who answered Anchor’s call and became a part of such a great deed. This award is yet another recognition of all the unbelievable support Ukraine receives from the British Nation. When a great team gets together miracles happen”.

Newly appointed BIFA director general Steve Parker said: “Now in their 34th year, the Freight Service Awards provide the perfect opportunity to come together and celebrate excellence within the sector, and it was a pleasure to participate in something that is so highly regarded throughout the industry.

Anchor Freight has four UK based offices, Dover, Felixstowe, Glasgow, and Ipswich providing, customs brokerage, global freight solutions, VAS warehousing and UK distribution services, with plans to open a fifth office this year in Ireland.
